Lecture: Tomorrow's Challenges in Astronomy
The ECLAT joint laboratory is organising a lecture by Damien Gratadour on Tuesday 3 June at 18:00 on the challenges of astronomy at the Manoir de Kerazan in Loctudy, as part of the ECLAT hackathon taking place there from 2 to 6 June.
The challenges of future astronomy: looking further, thinking more sustainably
In this lecture, Damien Gratadour will present the scientific ambitions of the SKA Observatory, a revolutionary radio telescope that holds the promise of major advances in our understanding of the universe, from the Big Bang to the mysteries of dark matter. He will then discuss the challenges and impacts involved in setting up such large-scale scientific infrastructure: technological challenges, energy consumption, environmental impact and socio-economic benefits. Finally, he will explain how the scientific community is innovating and overcoming these challenges to ensure a balance between scientific advances and social responsibility.
A lecture open to all as part of the ECLAT laboratory hackathon
This conference is free and open to everyone, whether you are an astronomy enthusiast, curious about the subject, or a citizen who wants to better understand the challenges surrounding large-scale scientific infrastructure.
The event is part of the hackathon organised by the ECLAT laboratory, which will be held throughout the week at the Manoir de Kerazan. This gathering will bring together 25 scientists and engineers with the aim of tackling the challenges posed by the deluge of data generated by large research infrastructures such as the upcoming giant radio telescope, SKAO.
